The Heights Festival Choir

Each year the school prepares a “Festival Choir” that participates in the South Australian Public Schools Festival of Music, which is a series of concerts held at the Festival Theatre in September. Students from years 5-7 can nominate to join our choir which rehearses once a week in the spacious Junior School Activity Room.

There are wonderful opportunities for students to learn to sing in harmony parts as many of the songs have arrangements that involve two, three and four part singing. A number of students audition as soloists for our choir and the combined choir concerts in September.

The songs selected cover a broad spectrum of styles and arrangements from rap to opera and a few involve choreography which cause a bit of humour as the choir trainer and members of the choir come to learn the moves in the early stages but always looks spectacular once we’ve “nailed” it.

Choir is hard work and fun with rewarding results when we perform in front of an audience. Earlier this year we hosted a “Choir Workshop” for some surrounding schools and in August we will go to a rehearsal at Unley High School ready for the Festival Theatre performance. We showcase our talents at assemblies and look for opportunities to sing to the school community and beyond.
